Going Mobile: 4 things to know about the new Axon app

As agencies around the world move towards mobile-first policing, Axon has developed a new mobile app that gives officers access to Axon Evidence, Axon Records and Axon Standards anytime, anywhere. Now, officers can address key paperwork items in the field, reducing backlogs.

Axon’s 2024 Digital Evidence Trends Report found that 41% of officers return to the office multiple times per shift to review evidence or write reports. Cutting down on these return trips to the office – or removing them entirely – allows officers to spend more of their shift in the field protecting their communities. The same report also found that 55% of officers desire a mobile app that gives them the ability to view evidence in the field.

Mobile-first solutions will not just improve agency workflows, but also officer retention. In 2022, law enforcement agencies reported 50% more resignations than in 2019. As many public safety agencies struggle with a recruiting crisis and increasing burnout, solutions like the new Axon app can increase officer satisfaction and make their caseloads more manageable.

The Axon app is available today and provides users with mobile access to complete workflows without having to return to the station. Let’s explore four key components of the new Axon app:

  1. Mobile-first design - The Axon app is designed for easy viewing and navigation on any mobile device. The app’s home screen is a dynamic dashboard that provides a clear visual of action items that require attention. Features most relevant for field use are easily accessible.

  2. Stringent data security - The Axon app is part of Axon’s secure, cloud-based ecosystem that ensures data integrity and tracks chain of custody. It provides authorized personnel with convenient access to evidence from any location, so work started on one device can be completed on another without data loss. Biometric security features such as Face ID, Touch ID and passcodes are required to open the application, providing an additional layer of security to users.

  3. Easy evidence management - Mobile access to Axon Evidence allows officers to easily search for, review, request and maintain evidence in the field. Users can add evidence categories, ID, titles and other metadata straight from their mobile device. Those with access to Axon Community Request can quickly collect digital evidence from witnesses, reducing the risk of losing evidence or breaking chain of custody.

  4. Simplified report management - The Axon app gives users with Axon Records and Axon Standards licenses the ability to manage reports and digital evidence on the go. Users can seamlessly create, continue/edit and submit reports without having to return to the station. Additionally, they can leverage the search capability to accurately identify persons of interest on-scene.
